FonteSasso is owned and run by a husband and wife team who followed their dreams and bought a home in Gualdo, Le Marche. We have experienced the highs and lows of living abroad and with our knowledge we would like to take that burden off you. We aim to give property owners and holiday makers the best service possible, a service that we would expect to receive ourselves.
Our villa apartment occupies two floors of our three storey house; the first and second floors. This is completely self contained and has its own private access. It has four/five bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms and a kitchen. There is an outside balcony for taking in the view. To the side of the house is an area reserved solely for our guests for making a barbecue and eating out but the whole six acres of our land is for you to roam at will and the swimming pool is for your exclusive use.
We live in the ground floor apartment of the villa and our prices take into account the fact that you will be sharing our delightful home with us for the duration of your visit. We will try to do everything to make your stay comfortable and to ensure that your privacy is of the utmost importance. Some of the benefits of having us on site are:
- that we clean our pool every day. (We normally do this early in the morning so that it is not too hot when we are working, but if you are early risers and want to start the day with a swim it is easy enough to negotiate with us a different time for pool cleaning).
- We can help with any problems that may arise in the apartment during your stay e.g. plumbing, power cuts, lost keys etc.
- You can tap into our local knowledge for good places to eat or interesting places to visit.

This is the incredible view from the driveway at FonteSasso. This is our second home in Le Marche. We bought our first as a ruin at a time when Malcolm needed something to focus on during a difficult period at work and have never regretted it. The difficulties passed. We came to love our bit of Italy, made lots of friends of all nationalities and found ourselves having a far better social life than we ever had in England and because of the differences in many aspects of the cost of living we could afford it.
|
Our first house was beautifully renovated but rapidly became too small for us and our family and friends. So when we decided that we would eventually come and live here we sold it and bought our present house in Gualdo.
The experience of buying and renovating has been invaluable in that we are now able to help and advise others going through the same process. It’s not always easy and having someone on the spot to help answer your questions and keep an eye out for you can be very reassuring. This is why we formed a small team of people who could run a property management service in this area. We do everything from helping to motivate the geometra to checking out the property when the owners are not there. As well as handling changeovers for owners who want to rent or arranging for gardening and pool cleaning. We can even provide the translation service when you come to sign the final notary contract on purchasing.
Because you can plan barbecues in the summer we do a lot of outdoors entertaining and these outside cooking facilities, which include a barbecue and a pizza oven are there for the use of our guests.
We both love food and cooking so we are always busy. There is so much by way of fresh foods to choose from that the only difficulty is one of selection. Le Marche is not the greatest wine making area of Italy but some of the Rosso Conero wines are really excellent and nearby Matellica produces some high quality verdicchio. We have found a range of really good restaurants here and some of them are quite excellent with top quality chefs producing a great variety of gourmet foods in restaurants such as the Osteria Borgia at Borgiana or Le Logge at Urbisaglia. We have produced a guide to eating in Le Marche just for our guests, ranging from the gourmet restaurant to the simplest agriturismo. Prices range from 20 to 35 euros per person. Our garden produces many fruits and favourite amongst these are our figs which with a little parma ham or yoghurt make a lovely breakfast.
Enjoy our website. We are trying to keep it fresh, useful and entertaining. Let us know what you think or drop us an e mail. We would love to see you here in Italy. (Contact Malcolm & Isabel)
THE AREA How to find us
|
Gualdo itself is a delightful hilltop town some 652 metres above sea level between the high valleys of the rivers Tennacola and the Salino. From the town with its medieval narrow cobbled streets one’s gaze moves from the Sibillini mountains, evocative of the cave where for centuries the sibyl has sat in perpetual vigil, to the sharp outline of Monte Conero on the Adriatic coast. Tradition says that the first settlement here was built after the abandonment of Urbs Salvia and Faleria following the Barbaric invasions when the inhabitants were forced to move higher in search of places easier to defend. The Brunaforte family became owners of several castles in the area and in the nearby town of Sarnano the entrance to the Centro Storico is still guarded by the Brunforte Gate.
In the centre of the town of Gualdo is a memorial, with a library, to Romolo Murri, a priest born in 1870 who went on to become the founder of the Christian Democrats. From Gualdo visitors can explore the whole of Le Marche, or drive to Assissi and Perugia and cast their nets over Umbria and Tuscany.
